On Sunday January 31 at 2 pm, Lost and Found opens at Bildmuseet, Umeå!

The curators of Lost and Found, Jane Rowley and Louise Wolthers,will introduce the exhibition.

On Saturday January 30, there will be a seminar in conjuntion with the exhibition. The seminar, “Queer in Theory and Practice”, is organized by Bildmuseet and Umeå Center for Gender Studies, and will contain lectures and conversations about queer art and theory. Three of the artists participating in Lost and Found – Mary Coble, Conny Karlsson and Tejal Shah – present their work; Malin Rönnblom, Political Scientist and lecturer in Gender Studies, gives an introductory lecture about queer, and the curators Jane Rowley and Louise Wolthers talk about the exhibition.

The Copenhagen-version of the exhibition Lost and Found: Queerying the Archive at Kunsthallen Nikolaj is taken down, but only to open in Umeå at Bildmuseet January 25 2010. If you didn’t get the change to see the exhibition in Denmark, then go to Sweden this spring instead!

Mette Sandbye reviews Lost and Found in Weekendavisen 19. June, and the paper can now be read online (click on June 19).

The curators of Lost and Found, Jane Rowley and Louise Wolthers, have published the article “At queere arkivet” (Queering the archive) in the feminist web magazine FORUM. 

The article reflects upon the curatorial choices and process in making the Lost and Found exhibition, focussing especially upon the complex but important relationship between a queer perspective and gender representation.

Bolette Frydendahl Larsen reviews Lost and Found on the progressive web portal Queerkraft.

Ingrid Stigsdotter reviews Lost and Found in the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan.

Stigsdotter writes: “It makes me happy to see two curators of contemporary art select moving images carefully, and present them in a way that gives weight to each of the installations. But then, this exhibition also has something important to say.” (Jag gläds åt att se kuratorer av samtidskonst välja rörliga bilder selektivt och presentera dem på ett sätt som ger vikt åt varje enskild installation. Men så har den här utställningen också något viktigt att säga.)

Jenny Maria Nilsson reviews Lost and Found under the title “Befriande queera erfarenheter” (Liberating queer experiences) in the Swedish newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad.

Nilsson writes: “Lost and Found is the most sophisticated exhibition I have seen that concern itself with ‘queer’.” (Lost and Found är den mest sofistikerade utställning jag sett som dryftar ”queer”.)
